Product Description

Whether you are getting into photography, back into photography or just upgrading your camera.

Do you fancy a regular camera that can also be used for Infrared photography? Read on.

Everything you need is included.

This is a stunning 42mp camera with 4k video capability and a very low shutter count of only 3,891 shots.

NOTE: "The Full-Spectrum A7R-II is not recommended for serious Astro photography or very long exposures at high ISO's if exposures longer than 10s at 1600 ISO are anticipated because there is a very low-level IR contamination of the image from internal IR sensors at exposures much longer than this. It really only applies to TRACKED ASTRO shots where long exposures of several minutes are common, and it is not an issue under normal use." This is a known and well documented issue and only becomes marginally detectable beyond 10s exposures at ISO 1600. (TESTED)

I can supply body only including battery and neck strap on request.

Key Features:
  • 42.4 megapixel Exmor R Full-frame BSI CMOS sensor
  • No optical low-pass filter
  • 3inch tilting screen, 1,228,800 dots
  • 399-point wide area fast hybrid AF
  • 5-axis in-body image stabilisation - 4.5 stops
  • ISO100 - ISO25600, extends to ISO50 and ISO102400
  • Internal 4K movie recording - full pixel readout without pixel binning
  • XGA OLED viewfinder, 0.78x magnification, 100% coverage, 2,359,296 dots
  • 5fps continuous shooting
  • Enhanced grip and shutter button
  • Robust lens mount
  • Customisable buttons
  • Wi-Fi, NFC built-in

Everything about the camera is in overall immaculate condition showing virtually no signs of use including the camera screen which has absolutely no marks at all, and a new tempered glass screen protector has been applied to keep it this way.

The Sony Alpha A7 is a part of the Sony Alpha Series, Sony's full-frame mirrorless camera range. The whole range shares some features but each thread of the Sony Alpha Series (R, S and regular) prioritises one aspect of photography over another.

  • Sony A7 R cameras prioritise Resolution over Speed (heavy cropping can be done without losing too much resolution, but you are compromising speed)
  • Sony A7 S cameras prioritise Sensitivity (Speed) over Resolution (magnificent in low light situations at high ISO's due to the larger light gathering sensor pixels). ISO 100-102400, which is further expandable to ISO 50-409600. (A killer for Astrophotography)

  • Sony A7 cameras prioritise Hybrid Shooting which is in the middle of the two.

This camera has been professionally converted to "Full Spectrum" which makes it rather fun for dabbling in infrared photography. To do this, the IR/UV blocking filter has been removed from the sensor allowing the camera to "see" light wavelengths that the human eye cannot. Because it has been converted, shooting in infrared is hand-held just as in regular photography unlike unconverted cameras which require long exposures as the camera can't see the IR properly.

I have included the four essential filters,  a very special absorption type IR/UV blocking filter for the front of the lens which replaces the filter removed from the sensor. This allows you to continue to use this camera as a "normal" camera, and swapping this filter for the supplied Aerochrome (IR Chrome), 590nm and 720nm IR filter opens up a whole new world of fun.

So, everything that you will need is included. These filters are brand new.

Two batteries are included with a twin-bay charger. The batteries can also be charged directly in the camera with the supplied USB cable, and it is good to do it this way from time to time as it also tops up the internal back-up battery.

Very low shutter count of only 18,419 shots. (Anything under 20,000 is considered as very low on the A7)

Firmware is up to date.

It works perfectly (as expected) and comes with everything seen in the images including a complimentary bag, 32gb SD card which can hold over 3000 full res JPEG images and a USB SD Card Reader.

All my pictures are of the actual items for sale, so what you see is what you get.

Ready to go straight out of the box.

You won't be disappointed!

Condition Meanings:            Pristine - No obvious signs of use, as new.

Immaculate - Virtually no signs of use.
There is a very fine line           Excellent - Light signs of use, nothing much.
between Excellent,                  Very Good - Some signs of use, possible scuffing.
Immaculate & Pristine.            Good - Well used, and some scuffing.
Defective - For spares or repair.

Full Spectrum Care:

We focus on quality and longevity. Every camera we convert goes through a full diagnostic check - we test every component, and if something isn't right, we fix or replace it. So, the goal is to make sure it keeps working for years.

That level of care, combined with experience, is what keeps people coming back to us. We're not just swapping out filters - we're refurbishing and upgrading these cameras to a professional standard.

·        Every camera undergoes a full multi-point diagnostic check

·        Faulty components are repaired or replaced before conversion

·        We calibrate infinity focus, ensuring compatibility with any lens

·        Specialising also in high-end Sony models: A6000 series, A7 series

·        Each unit is tested and tuned for long-term reliability

·        Direct support from who performs the work - no outsourcing

In these Sony cameras, the sensor sits on shafts that are calibrated for each specific unit - not just the model, but each individual camera. We measure these shafts with 0.01 mm precision (10 microns) and adjust them so the camera can properly focus at infinity. It's a process that requires experience.

12 Month Guarantee: (UK only) We guarantee our Full Spectrum converted cameras for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase against defects (accidental damage and abusive wear and tear excluded). This guarantee goes beyond our 30-day free return policy, and we will professionally repair (or replace at our discretion) your camera before returning it to you free of charge - less your cost of posting it to us.

Can full spectrum cameras see ghosts?
There is a common misconception in the paranormal world that full spectrum cameras can capture ghosts: THEY CAN'T, and no known camera can.
Anyone telling you that they can are either misleading you or are mis-informed themselves - See this interesting VIDEO on the subject, and you need to watch all 26 minutes of it if you are not convinced.

If you are new to IR photography, you will need a photo editor in order to properly white balance and colour swap the red and blue channels for the desired colour balance effects and blue skies. Without editing you will not have good pictures. I can fully recommend "Raw Therapee" which is free and does everything. This is what I use myself. Once you get the hang of it you will find it easy to use, and there are plenty of tutorial videos online. Another editor that is commonly mentioned is "Gimp", but I have tried them both and much prefer "Raw Therapee" as I find it easier to use and seems to do everything. It seems to be "more complete" as Gimp doesn't seem to be able to process RAW images.

Always shoot in "RAW" for IR photography as this gives you much more leeway when editing. They can be saved as JPEG or TIFF afterwards.

Everything is sent by First Class Post (Tracked 24) in order to get it to you as quickly as possible.

Questions & Answers:

Q: Can I still clean the sensor as I normally would on your Full Spectrum cameras?

A: Absolutely you can, the sensor is not "naked". Under the filter that has been removed from the sensor remains a very hard permanent factory fitted glass which protects the sensor.

Q: Will the camera still focus properly at infinity after a conversion?

A: In these Sony cameras the sensor sits on shafts that are calibrated for each specific unit, not just the model, but each individual camera. We measure these shafts with 0.01 mm precision (10 microns) and adjust them so the camera can properly focus at infinity with any lens. It's a process that requires experience!

The other option would be to replace the removed filter stack with material of equivalent thickness, but this is not how we do it! This involves using optical glass or performing a permanent fixed-wavelength conversion (e.g., for 720nm or similar). It's a tricky method, and image quality can suffer depending on the quality of the replacement glass.
