These Fourth Eye 49mm infrared filters are nano-coated for minimal reflections and available in four distinct wavelengths, each producing a different balance of infrared and visible light — from vivid colour IR to pure monochrome.
Choose Your Wavelength
590nm — "The Goldie" — Extreme Colour IR
Captures a rich blend of infrared and visible light, producing warm golden tones with vibrant colour. Ideal for colour IR photography and equally striking when converted to black and white via simple desaturation.
680nm — Amplified Colour IR
Shifts further into the infrared spectrum while retaining some visible light. Tones are more muted than the 590nm, with a cooler, more ethereal quality. Works well for both colour and monochromatic infrared images.
720nm — The Standard IR
The most popular infrared filter — and for good reason. Captures predominantly infrared light with a small amount of visible light, delivering the classic IR look: bright foliage, dark skies, and excellent contrast. Excellent for both colour channel-swap work and monochrome.
760nm — Pure Black & White IR
Blocks virtually all visible light, letting only infrared through. The result is deep, rich monochrome images with minimal post-processing required. The purist's choice for dramatic black and white infrared photography.
Shooting Tips
- Always shoot in RAW — it gives far more latitude for white balance correction and channel work in post
- With a converted camera, shoot handheld as you normally would; unconverted cameras will require long exposures and a tripod, especially at 720nm and above
- For colour IR work, white balance and channel swapping in post will produce blue skies and the classic false-colour effect — RawTherapee (free) handles this excellently
